blueflowersLARPD purchased the land from the federal government for $33,000 ($1,000 per acre). It had been bought in 1923 as part of the Veterans Administration Hospital holding and, before that, was a Cresta Blanca vineyard since the 1880s. The purchase included several buildings: two houses, a duplex, a garage complex, a barn and the cave/winery area. LARPD bought a duplex located between the park's current two bridges for $5 and moved it to the Upper Veterans Park area to house the district's landscape architect. Eventually the state bought that duplex for $35,000 and moved it near where the Del Valle Dam was built.
