Friendship Center Closure
After 15 years of service to the Tri-Valley area, LARPD’s Friendship Center Adult Day Care Program closed its doors on June 18, 2008. The Board of Directors decided on May 14, 2008, to suspend the state-licensed program due to losing its lease with the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District for space at the charter school site on Sonoma Avenue. The Livermore Valley Charter School needed the space for its growing program. For three years, LARPD and the Tri-Valley Adult Day Care Program nonprofit organization worked with consultants, researched alternate locations and met with numerous organizations to try to move the program. Unfortunately, no site materialized that could house the program in a cost-effective manner for future years. A grassroots, community task force formed in an effort to open an adult day care.
