Livermore Area Recreation and Park District has a variety of programs for the swimmer who wants to take it to the next level. Whether you are interested in swim team, water polo, or training to be a lifeguard, we have something for you.
Come join the Robert Livermore Aquatics Center Team! The American Red Cross Junior Lifeguard program for boys and girls age 11-14 years builds a strong foundation of knowledge, attitudes, and skills geared towards the prevention and responses to emergencies. Each day participants enjoy a variety of water and land activities designed to promote fitness, self-esteem, leadership skills, and TEAM work.Jr. Lifeguards will received training in CPR and First Aid, as well as receive the Jr. Lifeguard Certification. Bring a lunch and reusable water bottle each day; snacks will be provided. Candidates who complete the academy are invited to volunteer throughout the summer season.
Prerequisites- Level 4 swim ability required
Start preparing for one of the best jobs in Livermore and become a Lifeguard. The American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course course provides young adults ages 15 and older the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. Attendance at all class meetings are required to receive certifications. Participants must be 15 years old by the end of the course. Course fees include books and materials. Participants who successfully complete the Lifeguard Training course will receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED which is valid for two years.
Prerequisites- Participants are required to pass the prerequisite on the first class meeting date to continue on with the course: Swim 300-yards continuously using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both (swimming on your back is not permitted, and you may use swim goggles); tread water with your legs only and your head must remain above the water for two (2) minutes without support and without stopping; complete a timed test by swimming out 20 yards from the designated starting point, retrieve a 10 lb. brick from 7-10 feet of water, and return it to the designated starting point within the time given and exit the pool without using the stairs or ladder (both hands must be on the brick at all times, and your face must be out of the water when swimming back to the designated starting point)
