Start preparing for one of the best jobs in Livermore and become a Lifeguard. The American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course provides participants with the entry level knowledge and skills required to prevent, recognize and respond to emergencies. Successful completion of all practical skills and written tests will provide certifications in Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. Attendance at all class meetings are required to receive certifications. Participants must be 15 years old by the end of the course. Course fees include books and materials. Participants are required to pass the prerequisite on the first class meeting date to continue on with the course: Swim 300-yards continuously using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both (swimming on your back is not permitted, and you may use swim goggles); tread water with your legs only and your head must remain above the water for two (2) minutes without support and without stopping; complete a timed test by swimming out 20 yards from the designated starting point, retrieve a 10 lb. brick from 7-10 feet of water, and return it to the designated starting point within the time given and exit the pool without using the stairs or ladder (both hands must be on the brick at all times, and your face must be out of the water when swimming back to the designated starting point).
The American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Training course prepares participants to teach American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim and Water Safety courses. Instructors will learn to use course materials, plan and conduct classes as well as evaluate student progress. Successful completion of all practical skills and written tests will provide certification as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor. Fees include books and materials; there is an additional $35 fee in addition to the basic registration fee that is nonrefundable and made payable to the American Red Cross. Prerequisites: Participants must be at least 16 years old by the end of the course; participants are required to attend all class meetings and online assignments; participant must be able to swim and complete: 25 yards of front crawl, 25 yards of backstroke, 25 yard of breaststroke, 25 yards of sidestroke, 25 yards of elementary backstroke, and 15 yards of butterfly; tread water for one (1) minute; and maintain a back float for one (1) minute.
Come join the Robert Livermore Aquatic Center Team! The American Red Cross Junior Lifeguard program builds a strong foundation of knowledge, attitudes, and skills geared towards the prevention and responses to emergencies. Each day participants enjoy a variety of water and land activities designed to promote fitness, self-esteem, leadership skills, and TEAM work. Each participant will receive training in CPR and First Aid, as well as receive a Jr. Lifeguard certification. Bring a lunch and reusable water bottle each day; snacks will be provided. Prerequisite: must be able swim at a Level 4 swim ability.
