Staff Highlight: Dora O'Brien

May contain: jacket, coat, clothing, person, shoe, footwear, water, glasses, and accessories

While Sycamore Grove Park was closed during the flood releases, LARPD Open Space Naturalist Dora O’Brien worked non-stop to keep the public informed about the flooding and the park through Open Space’s social media platforms.  Through amazing photos and videos on Instagram and Facebook, Dora provided a way for the public to feel still connected to the park. At the same time, they could not physically visit due to the hazards of the monumental storm system and the subsequent flood releases from Lake Del Valle.

Her sense of humor, kindness, and genuine curiosity for the natural world easily translated into these stories and posts and connected with viewers.  Dora has become a household name for some followers as they kept up-to-date with the park and the flooding during its closure.

Now that Sycamore Grove Park has reopened to the public, please feel free to say hello to Dora if you see her in the park, join her on one of her interpretive programs this coming month, and continue (or start!) to follow Open Space’s happenings through her posts on social media.

Thank you, Dora, for all you do!
