This Month's Tip: Safeguarding Your Mail from Theft

Livermore, CA – With reports of mail theft on the rise in the community, the Livermore Police Department is sharing essential tips to help residents protect their mail and personal information.

Here are some proactive measures you can take to prevent mail theft:

Daily Mail Check: Make it a habit to check your mailbox daily and promptly collect your mail. If possible, consider going paperless to reduce the amount of sensitive information sent to your mailbox.

Mail Hold: If you're planning to be away from home for an extended period, request the United States Postal Service to hold your mail until your return. This prevents mail from accumulating and becoming an easy target.

Informed Delivery: Sign up for the Postal Service's Informed Delivery service. It sends you email notifications about incoming mail and packages, allowing you to stay informed and track your deliveries.

Financial Vigilance: Regularly monitor your bills, credit card statements, and bank accounts. Quick detection of any suspicious activity can help you take action before any serious harm occurs.

Enhanced Security: Consider investing in a locked mailbox, a P.O. Box, or a video surveillance security system for added protection against mail theft.

Report: If you suspect or witness mail theft in your neighborhood, don't hesitate to report it. You can contact the Livermore Police Department's non-emergency line at (925) 371-4987.

By staying vigilant and implementing these precautions, you can help safeguard your mail and personal information from potential theft, contributing to a safer and more secure community.
