RANGER PROGRAM: California's Outstanding Oaks!

Celebrate California Native Oak Day with a leisurely guided hike through Sycamore Grove! During this family-friendly hike, Ranger Ian will share how to identify the various oaks within our park, the value of these majestic trees to our local ecosystems, and the important role that the acorn has played in the lives of humans and local wildlife since time immemorial. We'll also discuss how indigenous people of the Bay Area cooked and continue to cook with the acorn and, depending on conditions, may even have the opportunity to gather some for ourselves!

This on-trail hike will take place on mostly even, flat terrain, and participants are required to bring closed toed shoes and whatever personal supplies they might need (water, snacks, sunscreen, ect.) This event may be cancelled if rain or extreme weather is forecast for the day.
