General Information

Can I bring a generator? 

Yes, but generators must be silenced by 7 p.m. each evening. 

Are there quiet hours? 

Quiet hours are strictly enforced from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. This is a family-oriented campground, and groups not respecting quiet hours will be warned once and then asked to leave if they continue to be disruptive. Campers will not receive a refund if they are asked to leave the campgrounds due to not following or abiding our camp rules or oral instructions provided by our District ranger staff. 

Can I bring my dog? 

Dogs are permitted within the campgrounds, but must remain on a leash at all times and cannot be left unattended. 

Is there firewood for sale at camp? 

Firewood is not provided with your stay, however, you may purchase firewood in town. 

Is there ice available? 

We do have an ice machine on site, however, due to high demand it may become unavailable. You may also purchase bagged ice from the local grocery store if needed. 

Is Internet available? 

We do not have internet services and at times cellphone reception is not guaranteed while at the campground. 

How do I wash my dishes? 

Hot water is available from the sinks near the women’s restroom, but please do not wash dishes at these sinks. Scrape food scraps into the garbage, wash dishes using a biodegradable detergent, and dispose of wash water back a way from your campsite. 

 

Things to Do

What is there to do around camp? 

Campground amenities include a volleyball court, horseshoe pits and a ping-pong table. Baldwin Beach is a 1-mile walk from Camp Shelly. Fallen Leaf Lake and Desolation Wilderness trailheads are a short drive from Camp Shelly.

Can I walk to the beach? 

Yes, the beach is within walking distance, it is about a 1.2 mile walk. 

Can I bring a firearm?

Wildlife Considerations

Are there bears? 

Yes. There are black bears throughout the Tahoe basin. 

How do I store my food? 

Food should be stored only in the provided bear-proof food storage lockers (aka “bear boxes”); this includes all food and beverage items. The food storage locker dimensions are 48" wide x 34.5" deep x 20.5" tall.

Can I keep food in my car? 

Food is not permitted to be stored in your vehicle; all food should be should stored in your provided bear box. 

Are there mosquitos? 

Mosquitos are often plentiful in June but tend to be less of an issue by August. Bring mosquito repellent and/or wear pants and long sleeves in the evening.

Are there yellow jackets? 

Some years are worse than others. Yellow jackets are attracted to food and standing water.
