Destination Shelly: Community Camp

Community Camp Offers a Welcoming Way to Experience the Outdoors
Families looking for a simple, welcoming way to get outdoors this summer have a new opportunity through LARPD’s Destination Shelly: Community Camp program at Camp Shelly in South Lake Tahoe.
This new overnight experience is designed for both first-time campers and seasoned outdoor enthusiasts, offering family-friendly long weekends filled with connection, exploration, and fun.
Led by LARPD Rangers and Open Space Interpreters, each session blends guided activities with plenty of free time. Participants can enjoy:
- Morning wildflower walks
- Crafts, games, and family activities
- Campfire stories and evening gatherings
- Optional night hikes
- Hands-on learning about outdoor safety and camping responsibly in bear country
Each weekend is reserved exclusively for program participants, creating a relaxed, family-focused environment where kids can play freely, and families can connect with others sharing a similar experience.
