2/19/2026, LIVERMORE, CA — The Livermore Area Recreation and Park District (LARPD) has expanded and improved rentable picnic areas at four local parks in response to growing community demand for outdoor gathering spaces.

Over the past year, picnic areas at Independence Park, Lester J. Knott Park, and Pleasure Island  Park were enhanced and expanded to better accommodate families, community groups, and  celebrations. Improvements were designed to increase availability and provide more flexible options for residents seeking reservable spaces for birthdays, reunions, and other special events.

At May Nissen Community Park, LARPD added a third picnic area, complementing the park’s two existing reservable sites. The additional space is intended to help meet continued interest in  reservable outdoor facilities, particularly during the busy spring and summer months.

“Over the past several years, we’ve seen a steady increase in interest for reservable picnic spaces,” said Vicki Wiedenfeld, Recreation Manager for LARPD. “Expanding these areas allows us to better serve families and community groups who are looking for welcoming outdoor spaces to gather and celebrate.”

LARPD has seen steady demand for picnic rentals in recent years as residents look for accessible, outdoor venues to host gatherings. The District continues to evaluate opportunities to enhance amenities across its park system to support community use.

Picnic rentals are available seasonally from March through October. Reservations and additional information are available at www.larpd.org/picnic-rentals.
