LPD Tip of the Month: Scam Awareness
Be Aware of Deceptive Scams
The Livermore Police Department is warning the community about an ongoing rise in scams targeting residents, particularly older adults. Scammers are continually devising new tactics to deceive people, but staying vigilant and informed can help protect you and your loved ones.

Here are some common red flags to watch for. Remember: if something feels suspicious, it probably is.
A scammer will often:
- Contact you unexpectedly about a problem or a prize.
- Asks you for money or financial information.
- Tells you to keep it a secret or discourages you from sharing it with others.
- Pressures you to act quickly or instills a sense of urgency.
- Promises something that sounds too good to be true.
- Requests your username, password, or other sensitive information.
- Request payment using non-traditional methods, such as wire transfers, cryptocurrency, or gift cards.
If you encounter any of these warning signs, hang up the phone, delete the email, or text immediately. Do not engage or provide any personal information.
