Livermore PD Tip of the Month: Pedestrian Safety as we "Fall Back"
As Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday, Nov. 3, remember to set your clocks back an hour and check the batteries in your smoke detectors. Alongside these seasonal reminders, the Livermore Police Department encourages pedestrians to prioritize safety as it gets darker earlier in the evening.
Stay Visible and Stay Safe
With the earlier onset of darkness, it’s essential for pedestrians to remain highly visible to drivers. Here are some practical steps to enhance your safety:
- Wear Bright Colors: Opt for bright-colored clothing and hats that make you easily noticeable in low light.
- Use Crosswalks and Intersections: These designated areas provide added visibility and safety when crossing streets.
- Cross Near Streetlights: If no crosswalk is nearby, choose to cross under a streetlight to improve visibility for both you and drivers.
- Make Eye Contact with Drivers: Always make eye contact with drivers when crossing to confirm they see you. Don’t assume that being in a crosswalk alone ensures they will stop.
By following these tips, you can help reduce the risk of accidents and stay safe as the evenings grow darker.
