Community Gathers to Celebrate Opening of Sunken Gardens Pump Track

Livermore, CA – Hundreds of community members, local leaders, riders, and families gathered on Wednesday, June 17th, to celebrate the opening of the new Sunken Gardens Pump Track. The strong turnout reflected the community's excitement for the new amenity and the growing popularity of wheeled sports in Livermore.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony featured remarks from LARPD Board Chair Phil Pierpont and Livermore Mayor John Marchand, followed by a ceremonial first ride led by community member and project advocate Mike Ralph.
The Sunken Gardens Pump Track is Livermore's first pump track and was developed in response to community interest in expanding opportunities for outdoor recreation and wheeled sports. Located adjacent to the existing Sunken Gardens Skate Park, the new facility expands recreation opportunities for riders of all ages and abilities.
The project reflects LARPD's commitment to providing diverse recreation opportunities and responding to the evolving needs and interests of the community.
"This project shows what can happen when a community comes together around a shared vision," said LARPD Board Chair Phil Pierpont. "From the earliest public discussions to the riders, families, advocates, and community members who supported it along the way, this pump track was shaped by the community and built for the community. We're excited to see it open and enjoyed for years to come."
The professionally designed concrete pump track features banked turns, table tops, rollovers, and banked extensions that allow riders to build momentum through movement rather than pedaling. The project also includes ADA-accessible pathways, improved site accessibility, shaded seating and gathering areas for families and visitors, synthetic turf, and other site enhancements that improve the overall park experience.
The project was funded through City of Livermore AB1600 park in-lieu fees and constructed by
Newton Construction & Management. The new facility expands recreation opportunities for cyclists. scooter riders, and other wheeled-sport enthusiasts while creating a welcoming gathering space for
the broader community.
