Senior Services July Mystery Movie Review

Mystery Movie and Review at the Vine Cinema

Each month the Senior Services Department offers the opportunity to gather at the Vine Cinema to see a movie together. The movie is not announced ahead of time, so it's always a mystery!  After the movie, they gather at the neighboring Zephyr Grill and Bar for appetizers and to chat about the movie.  It's a fun event and lets everyone hear what others think about the same show.  We collectively devised a movie review at the end of our time together.  Check it out below!

JULY MYSTERY MOVIE REVIEW: Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

Starring: Harrison Ford and Phoebe Waller-Bridge

On Thursday, 7/6, this month's Mystery Movie and Review seniors' group were spoiled by the amazing Vine Cinema and Zephyr Grill and Bar staff as they enjoyed an excellent film, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

We enjoyed the freshly popped popcorn and treats in the beautifully maintained and operated Vine Cinema while watching the show in the comfy theater seating, which includes couches now!  We just love this theater, and the entire staff and management there are very accommodating to us!

After, we walked to Zephyr Grill and Bar to be greeted by the friendly and very capable staff. In their private Cellar Room, we had delicious hot and savory appetizers and yummy Ceasar salad as we engaged in a lively conversation about the film.  Life can't get much better!

Here is the collective review of the movie:

Daredevil archaeologist Indiana Jones races against time to retrieve two halves of a legendary dial that, if joined together, can change the course of history through time travel. Accompanied by his goddaughter, he soon finds himself squaring off against Jürgen Voller, a ruthlessly evil former Nazi who works for NASA.

We were immediately launched into an edge-of-your-seat thrilling chase movie laced with flashbacks of Indiana Jones's past adventures that help to reveal the reason why Indy and his former partner, Basil Shaw, knew it was imperative to secure both halves of the Dial of Destiny.  Each scene was filled with stunning colors and scenery, electrifying traditional “Indy” stunts and intriguing clues as to who created the dial (Archimedes) and the horrific global devastation that would take place if the two halves (much longer story...) of the dial were found by Voller.

This is the last Indiana Jones film that Harrison Ford will star in. Yes, sadly, the last. This is why we were all so thrilled to see him return as the intelligent and handsome daredevil that he’s been in his past Indiana Jones films, which were first released in 1981 (Raiders of the Lost Ark).

Most of the mystery movie group loved the show and were glued to their seats for 2.5 hours!  Harrison Ford, again, plays the role of Indiana Jones with true style and distinction.  We found it nostalgic to be pulled into the life of Indiana Jones once again.  His last quest to save the world from evil perfectly ended Indy’s lifelong journey. Surprisingly, at the very end of the film, he is reunited with Marion, who he finally realized was the love of his life.

A few in the group found the scenes too long and the movie's overall length too.  But indeed, it was a truly refreshing summer blockbuster, void of sex, drugs, cursing, and overly graphic violence.  Simply delightful!  We gave this movie a 4.5-star rating!

It's not too late to join us at the next Mystery Movie and Review at the Vine Cinema on Wednesday, 8/9!  Hope to see you there! You can sign up by calling 925-373-5700 or by clicking the link below!
