Free Swim Assessments Begin April 1, 2023

To place students in the correct level, we're offering free swim assessments beginning April 1 at the RLAC. You will need to contact Aquatics to make an appointment at 925-373-5750 or email us at aquatics@larpd.org.

If you've taken lessons elsewhere, please call us at 925-373-5750 or email us at aquatics@larpd.org. Aquatics staff can discuss the best level based on your previous swim lesson experience.

If you've never taken lessons, we encourage you to stop by for an assessment or sign up for level 1 to take the introductory lesson. Check out our swim lesson description below.

Class Descriptions:

Parent Tot

Parent-Child (6 months-4 years)

Our parent and child swim lessons are designed to create an enjoyable, non-threatening environment for infants and toddlers to be comfortable in, and around the water with parental support. An adult must accompany each infant or toddler in the water for each swim lesson class. Adults will learn how to teach their infant or toddler important water safety skills and basic swim lesson skills. This class is held in a group setting up to 15 other infants or toddlers.

Pre School

Preschool (4 years to 5 years)

Our Preschool swim lessons are developed and designed around swim participants between four (4) to five (5) years of age. These custom, hands-on swim lessons are a four (4) to one (1) student-to-teacher ratio.

Classes are scheduled based on age instead of swimming ability to create an aquatic environment that is appropriate for the swim participants.

Classes may be held in either pool depending on the participant's request, pool availability, and the swim instructor's recommendations.

Level 1: Sea Turtle

Level 1: Sea Turtle (5 years to 12 years)

Our group swim lesson Level 1 is an introduction to basic swimming skills. Each class has a six (6) to one (1) student-to-instructor ratio. Participants will be introduced to the aquatic environment, and develop independence and water competency.

They will learn the following skills: blowing bubbles, holding their breath, retrieving a submerged object, and learning the basic minimum skills needed to be safe in and around water.

Level 2: Squid

Level 2: Squid (5 years to 12 years)

Our group swim lesson, Level 2 is designed to develop fundamental aquatic skills. Each class has a six (6) to one (1) student-to-instructor ratio. Each swimmer will participate in fun, engaging, and challenging swimming skills to continue progressing toward being an independent swimmer. Some class skills include: independently floating on their front and back, independent front and back glides, front crawling with arms and legs, and retrieving an object underwater.

Level 3: Eel

Level 3: Eel (7 years to 12 years)

Our group swim lesson, Level 3 focuses on stroke development and introduces new swimming and water safety skills to build on what was previously learned in Level 1 and Level 2.

Each class has a seven (7) to one (1) student-to-teacher ratio. Swimmers will participate in fun, engaging, and challenging swimming skills to continue to develop their stroke to become safer and better swimmers.

Some class skills include swimming front crawl for 15 yards, treading water for 30 seconds, and swim elementary backstroke for 15 yards.

Swim Conditioning

7-12 years (Grouped by age)

Passed level 3 and looking to build your endurance? Get in shape with our swim conditioning class. Along with general workouts, there will be instructions on stroke techniques. This class is 45 minutes long.

Prerequisite

Ability to swim 25 yards comfortably and tread water for 30 seconds or pass Learn-to-Swim Level 3.

Private Lesson

Private Swimming Lessons (3+ years)

Our Individual Swim Lessons are developed and designed to be structured around the participant's swimming ability. Our instructors create a specific swim lesson plan specifically catered to each participant. These custom, hands-on swim lessons are a (1) to one (1) student-to-teacher ratio. Classes may be held in either pool depending on the participant's request, availability, and the swim instructor's recommendations.
